What is the purpose of doing interviews with long time residents of East Brandywine Township? Oral history helps round out the story of the past. At times this may be the only source of information about our community. It helps us to understand what happened here - not only in the interviewed person’s lifetime, but their stories about their families and neighbors as well. Just imagine the value of this project 100 years from now!!
Oral histories give us a perspective unlike photos, history books, etc. – You will find a variety from folks who remember what going to school was like compared to today, who worked in our mills, who attended our churches, who went through cultural changes unlike the ones we experience today.
This is preservation! We look to our Historical Commission to preserve buildings and to preserve memories!! And we’re excited to present this additional preservation project.
We would love to hear feedback from you after reading some of these interviews. You can do this on our East Brandywine Township Historical Commission Facebook page or by writing to us at the township building. Please let us know what you think and also if you would like to be interviewed. Contact CarolSinex@gmail.com to schedule a convenient time.
This is just the beginning – there are many more to be transcribed and uploaded to the web site so keep checking back for more postings! And many more interviews will be done! The past year has limited our opportunity to get together, but we’re ready to go now and do more interviews and share the stories!
