The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors has made us aware of a very disturbing scam.  In recent weeks, fake fundraising solicitations and requests for volunteer firefighters have been showing up all over PA. They are from a group called Volunteer Firefighter Alliance from Topeka, Kansas. While these letters reference may reference a local fire company and even be timed to coincide with a local fire company's fund drive, this group is not sharing any of the funds they raise!  It is a shameful attempt to capitalize on the goodwill earned by local fire companies across Pennsylvania and to prey on residents with good intentions.  

An example of the fake letter and last year's legitimate fundraising letter from the East Brandywine Fire Company are shown below.  Please note that legitimate requests always direct funds to be sent to directly to the firehouse at 2096 Bondsville Road, and the correct URL for the East Brandywine Fire Company's website is: www.ebfc49.org.
