BACKGROUND
In the Summer of 2015, the East Brandywine Township Board of Supervisors formed the Trails Committee, a new advisory body tasked with the implementation of trails planning consistent with both the 2009 Comprehensive Plan and the 2011 Official Township Map (See also the Planning Commission Page). During the creation of the Township's Comprehensive Plan, some 79% of survey respondents indicated they support the Township creating an interconnected trail system as a recreation amenity and a transportation alternative. The proposed trail segment is just one of the new Trails Committee's initiative. Others include a trail segment to connect Ferndale Lane to the Community Park and a multi-municipal project to connect the Struble Trail in Uwchlan Township to Hibernia Park in West Brandywine Township. You can read about these imitatives on the Trails Committee Page.
A plan of work for this project may be found on page 2 of the presentation above. The first task was a topographic survey of the area performed this Winter. McMahon then presented 3 alignment options to the Trails Committee. The pros and cons of these 3 three options are presented on pages 1-2 of the summary above and a map may be found on page 3 of the presentation. The Trails Committee selected route B-C.
The Trails Committee is now seeking your feedback conceptual design--you may do so below. The next steps are for McMahon to finalize the plan and prepare legal descriptions of the trail easements. In the case of the Hopewell HOA Open Space D, the Township anticipates obtaining an appraisal for this land, then asking the HOA membership at-large to approve conveying a trail easement to the Township.
